Manchester Tutors

Jessica Tomlinson, BMus (Hons) – Manchester Manager. Woodwind, piano and singing.

Hi! I’m Jess and I’m from “up North” in Manchester. I graduated from Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance in London a year ago (with a first!), studying clarinet and saxophone, and I am currentlying studying my post graduate degree at the Royal Northern College of Music. I perform regularly in the North West in orchestra, pit bands and with my multi-instrumental group Chameleon. I teach beginner to advanced piano and woodwind and beginner to intermediate voice. Outside of music, I love being active and have become the biggest fan of Pilates! It means I feel less guilty about eating my favourite chocolate fudge cake.

“I personally find lessons with Jess very enjoyable because I appreciate her teaching method and find it easy to relate to her” – Aurna, student

Megan Thompson – Violin, piano, theory and beginner singing

Hello! I am a violinist and music teacher based in Manchester and Lincolnshire. I began my musical education from the age of five and I am currently a student at the Royal Northern College of Music. I have enjoyed many orchestral and chamber music opportunities, playing in projects with the Hallé orchestra and Manchester Camerata. I also enjoy playing chamber music and doing session work, performing with touring groups in venues across the country including, Manchester Palace Theatre, Birmingham’s New Alexandra Theatre and Kings Theatre in Glasgow.

I love assisting young musicians in their music making! Sadly, I can’t eat cake but I do have an uncontrollable love of ice-cream and fudge!

Sam Quinn, BA (Hons) – Guitar, bass & keyboards

I studied Popular Music & Recording at The University Of Salford where I graduated with a First. Since then I have been an active musician and tutor around Manchester, focussing on Guitar, Bass and Keyboards. Performing has given me the chance to travel far and wide with an array of bands & musicians – I spent the past year busking my way around Australia just to name one recent adventure! Somehow though, I always find myself coming home to Manchester (mainly for the Eccles Cakes!)

Ronald MaasRonald Maas BMus (Hons) – Bass guitar, pop and jazz piano, band coaching

I graduated from Utrecht Conservatoire (NL) with an Honours degree in Jazz and Pop. Over the last fifteen years I’ve played over 1000 gigs with a huge variety of bands and projects, including big festivals and club tours all over Europe. I have also recorded ten albums and contributed bass lines to a handful more. I have taught several hundreds of bass guitar students in all styles, such as pop, rock, funk, blues and jazz. I am also experienced in coaching bands of all levels. I have helped those with little experience to set up a new band and coached musicians writing their first original songs, but have also coached experienced bands.

I always genuinely enjoy every second of helping students find their way in music, whether that’s learning how to play their favourite songs or writing their own originals.

When it comes to cake, I don’t really like lemon. I was always more of a McCartney fan.

“Ronald is polite, confident and friendly. He put me at ease and is clearly skilled. We did some fundamental technique work and talked a little at the end about creativity and songwriting. Big thumbs up” – Dawn James, student

Becky Dell, BMus (Hons) – Director

Hello! I’m Becky and I started up the Becky Dell Music Academy in 2012. I love music and I love making it fun, so I pass this ethos on to my tutors and students.

Jess Tomlinson, BMus (hons) – Manchester Manager

After being Becky’s PA and woodwind and piano tutor for 18 months in London, I have now set up and run the Manchester division of The Becky Dell Music Academy! First Northern England… next – the world! …

I am a graduate of Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance and I am currently studying a masters at the Royal Northern College of Music, alongside a varied freelance playing career. As professional development, I am looking into the physicality of playing, music in a health setting and pedagogy.

If you do not see your instrument here, please contact Jess as we are hiring new tutors all the time.
